Zero Waste Supervisor
Salary - $74,000.00/yr (Full Time)
BASIC FUNCTION
The Pritchard Zero Waste Supervisor will oversee Chase Center's zero-waste sorting operations for all event and non-event days. The Arena’s Zero Waste Team is expected to maintain a landfill diversion rate of more than 90% for each event (meaning, over 90% of all Arena waste is recycled, reused, or composted). The Zero Waste Supervisor is expected to hand-sort alongside their Team every shift.
The role of the Zero Waste Supervisor will require the following duties and qualifications:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsibility of zero-waste sorting operations shift-to-shift falls on the Zero Waste Supervisor.
- Lead large teams of workers to complete hand-sorting waste for each event shift. Regularly manage roughly 15 “core” Zero Waste Team members and up to 30 workers during events.
- Communicate with Zero Waste Team Leads and Sorters with clarity and control.
- Effectively report to the Hawks’ Sustainability Manager of problems and progress as it happens.
- Hand-sort waste on a daily/nightly basis. Ensure sorting is done correctly.
- Responsible for completing several shift checklists (pre-, during, and post-shift tasks).
- Maintain waste infrastructure.
- Collect data and maintain databases (e.g., weights, times, costs, etc.)
- Utilize work order tracking software to keep track of and report the status of tasks including pre-and post-event scheduled tasks, and responding to event-related requests as they arise.
- Transport donations or sorted waste to local recyclers/organizations (CHaRM, Goodwill, etc.).
- Transport people in and out of the Arena (volunteers, sub-contractors, etc.).
- Must be able to work efficiently and problem-solve on the go; task prioritization is key during fast-paced sorting operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual (English and Spanish).
- Efficiently manage teams of up to 50 people (shifts up to 15).
- Experience and interest in sustainability.
- Use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.).
- Take direction from Hawks Managers and Pritchard Event Managers.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment (up to 200 lbs).
- Ability to work a non-standard schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Punctual and reliable communicator.
- Positive attitude and consistent motivation to work.
- Must work well with all departments.
- Must hand-sort waste.
